- Museums and culture at the Monterey Museum of Art and local historic sites
Its combination of affordability, cleanliness, and proximity to iconic coastal scenery makes El Castell Motel especially attractive for couples who want to spend more of their budget on experiences—romantic dinners, wine tastings, and scenic drives—rather than on a high nightly room rate.
Our Verdict: An Affordable Base for Romantic Monterey Getaways
El Castell Motel will not appeal to travelers seeking full-service luxury, on-site spas, or fine dining. Instead, it shines as a “Best Value Escape,” a clean, quiet, and comfortable boutique-style motor lodge where couples can sleep well, park easily, and quickly reach the most romantic corners of California’s central coast.
